News of dire weather in Rotorua raises the likelihood of postponement.

Stay tuned for updates.

Current state of play - POSTPONED!

The 4th of May is looking like the best choice, but I will confirm asap.

After getting sucked in by the weather forecast lottery last weekend, we finally got to Rotorua a week late on Saturday, sadly without the guys who had made the trip on the original date. Despite this, we had models, fliers, grass and air. John Ryan took the judging position with our thanks and the final round of the 2013 series is in the books.

Sportsman had a 2013 record equalling turnout of one - David Thornley, our CD for the day. He showed further improvement from his Waikato appearance and joins Dave Ackery and Rob Wallace in the first-equal position for the season, each with 1000 series points. Because of the low participation in Sportsman this year, the results have been merged into an overall tally along with F2B.

Four F2B fliers made it to the re-scheduled round and were met with entirely enjoyable conditions and company set to the ambient symphony of a rifle range further up the valley sounding for all the world like a scene from Apocalypse Now. Loren Nell showed his skills to gain a fourth victory for the season, making him the stunt Series Champion for 2013. Well done Loren! Kevin Barnes has joined the electric brigade and flew one of his older Skydancers retrofitted for electric power. The model is still in the trimming phase and he flew slightly less precisely than is usual for him, but snared second place nonetheless. My own performance was probably one of the better pairs of flights this year and I finished up just a few points behind Kevin. Dave Wright's Spitfire had a bad run of misfortune with the first two flights being cut short by engine and gravity related problems. His third flight was pretty good, but not enough on its own.

Code: Select all
Sportsman:
1. David Thornley  -  124        161         141         282

F2B:
1. Loren Nell      - 993.5      1043.0      1040.5       2083.5
2. Kevin Barnes    - 984.0       969.0       949.0       1953.0
3. Adrian Hamilton - 893.0       982.5       964.0       1946.5
4. Dave Wright     - 392.0       370.0       944.5       1336.5

Many thanks to the Rotorua MAC, CD David and judge John.

So to the overall standings for the 2013 season...

Congratulations to Loren, who took the series with an unassailable maximum points haul and a spare 1000 points in the bank. This year we returned to prizes and Loren's pick of the two on offer was the 1000ft reel of 15 thou stunt line.

Second prize was a KR F2B motor timer, awarded on a draw from all the entries throughout the year and all the judges who have kindly made our contest possible. My good day continued as it was my name drawn from John Ryan's hat. Looks like I'll have to bump the electric model up the build queue a bit!

Thanks to everyone who has helped and participated throughout the season. See you all at the next one starting in October.

A.
