Motat Model Airshow March 2013

Motat Model Airshow March 2013

Postby Dale » Fri Jan 11, 2013 2:04 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Motat (for the out of towners: The Museum of Transport and Technology, Western Springs, Auckland) is running an Aviation themed month for March 2013. They wish to conclude this with an airshow on weekend of 30th and 31st. (The date is fixed to suit Motat's programme.)

They have approached us to organise the display and flying parts of this. (Motat will look after toilets, tickets, advertising etc).

We will be having a large static display of models, (likely within the main hangar), and a flying airshow in a nearby location, which is TBC.

We may also have some "hands-on" for the public in some fashion.

I will be putting up details for the events, so i would appreciate you guys chipping in with offers of static aircraft, pilots keen to fly etc etc.

This is going to be a big event to really put model flying on the radar, so get involved!

Getting some good responses to this, keep them coming!

Proposed layout:
Blue is the crowd area, includes toilets. May have some form of static display in here somewhere, and also some "hands on" for the masses to have a play with.

Purple is our flying site, smaller stuff will fit in here easy.

Anything bigger that requires a bit more sky can overrun the school buildings (yellow) to turn around etc, as these areas will be empty.

I know it seems tight, but we'll just do it the best we can.

Edit- just realised this may not be clear where this is, is Western Springs College, immediately south of and beside Motat 2. Note motat aircraft are visible in top left of pic.

I'd like to fill in 2-3 hours with flying, so programme ideas:

Aerobatic display

Bixler/Axn Display

Assassin combat display

WW1 Warbirds

WW2 Warbirds

Helicopters

Multicopter with live camera feed on display

Lolly drop

Build a plane on the day and test fly...

Come up with more, and put your name down for what you want to be involved with!

I will soon be approaching some of the model shops, as we have complete ok for them to put on their own display stands, advertising etc, as well as myself seeking support from them.

Having some great offers coming through, with giant 3d machines for display, jets, offers of pilots, offers of bodies etc. Thanks to all those who are contributing, but there is plenty more space yet!
I would love to hear from more of you, in particular guys with machines they are happy to put on static display.

There are two plans yet for a static display, one is inside the main aviation hall at Motat 2, (i.e. under cover but a bit removed from the action), the other is on the field adjacent the flying. Both areas will be fenced off and "policed", please if anyone has suggestions, let me know.

Time is getting closer, thanks for the offers of interest from you guys, but plenty of room for more! I am putting together the flyign programme now, so watch this space.

Note that we have had a change of field from the original post, so note the new one in the pic above. This is significantly larger than the previous field, which opens things up a bit.

It's hard to write a programme with large gaps in it!
Motat Display Programme

This is by no means anywhere near final, and will be updated regularly.
I need all pilots who are reading this to:
Confirm your attendance (sat/Sun or both)
Confirm the planes you will be bringing
Offer any further suggestions, there is plenty more space in the programme!
You will note that there are spaces where i have put a plane down, with no pilot. I'd like someone to offer to fill those spaces!

I know some questions have been raised regarding insurances, Motat has a policy which covers events such as this, (they already do large public events, this is just one more to them), so we are covered under this.

EDIT: Just had confirmation that MFNZ is registering the site for insurance purposes, so MFNZ members are covered under their existing policy for the duration of this event.

Pilot briefing will be at 10am each day for that days flying. If you haven't made prior arrangements, if you miss this, no fly.

Note: No registrations will be taken on the day, i need you to get in contact via this forum, Parkflyers, 021 178 8414 or dale_bradly@hotmail.com to register.
